When most people hear the word “investor”, they think of the billionaires of the world like Warren Buffet.
Sure that’s one example, but we are ALL investors in our own right and I believe the realisation of this can be a real game-changer for many people.
After all, every decision you make requires you to trade one thing for another AND the choice between these two decisions will generally create a different return.
The time related trades are the one’s that come up a lot when I’m coaching people.
Go to the gym …or stay in bed?
Cook an awesome home cooked meal
…or buy a take-away?
Finish that big project at work
…or dawdle your time away on
social media?
Go to bed earlier so you are more
productive the next day
…or binge watch another episode
of Netflix
There are also financial trades you probably make on a daily basis that you have never even thought about.
For instance fast food is often cheaper than good quality whole-foods.
But have you ever stopped to think about the ROR (rate of return) on eating well compared to not?
The ROR on Bad Food…
The return you get get from eating nutrient dense foods will be a combo of long-lasting energy levels, better clarity of mind, stabilised blood sugar levels, boosted immune system, improved ability to burn fat & build muscle.
Compare this one example to a high carb meal like a burger & fries where you will have a mass sugar crash, feel tired and bloated after.
..This in turn will affect your mood, productivity and waistline.
It will most certainly cause you to snack on more sugary/carb based foods through-out the day to get that energy back, not to mention
copious amount of caffeine!
The combo of chasing the caffeine & sugar high all day leads to increase amounts of stress.
This wears out your nervous system further to the point where when you arrive home all you can think about is opening a bottle red to “relax”.
By this point you may be too tired to even think about cooking so you order a take-away!
In terms of what we call at LPT the “TRIPLE H approach” to lifestyle performance (health, happiness & high performance)
This is what we would class as a really BAD investment!
However, it’s one that many people spend their life making.
The point of this mad ramble is simple…
Time is short.
Don’t take it for granted.
Think through your day to day decisions with care.
Think about the ROR you are getting in ALL areas of life.
Many of the strategies we share with our members at LPT can admittedly sound a little airy fairy or even pointless to many people.
…Journaling
..Meditation
…Cold showers
..Breathing drills
..Foam rolling
..Training even
etc etc
But many of these are GREAT longer-term investments.
You don’t ever “get healthy” OR “get fit”.
There is no definitive end destination.
It’s a daily effort.
So take a few moments today to look at areas where you can become a better investor of your time, money, health, relationships.
